I don't have an extensive history when it comes to top coats. I bought Sally Hansen's Advanced Hard as Nails Strengthening Top Coat about a year ago on a whim, but never really used it. When I fell in love with nail polish a couple months ago, I decided I would try a different one. After reading rave reviews, I wanted to give Grand Central Station a try.
The first bottle I bought seemed to work fine. I loved it. It was shiny, easy to apply, and inexpensive. Then the troubles began. About halfway through the bottle, it became goopy. Its consistency was hard to work with, and it was no longer clear; it is a little cloudy now.
I bought a second bottle and tried mixing some of the new polish into the first bottle. It didn't really make a difference. I invested in a bottle of polish thinner from Sally's and added a few drops. It seemed to work, but when I used it, it still wasn't the same.
I am now using the second bottle. It is a little runny and I have to move quickly between the bottle and my finger, but even when I start to apply it over my nail color, it still is a little difficult to work with. It also bubbles quite a bit in the bottle as I am using it, as seen in my last manicure.
Maybe we weren't meant to be. Maybe I am doing something wrong. I hope the latter is the case, and I can figure out how to remedy the problem. Because I did like it at the very beginning.
Have you used Grand Central Station? Did you experience any of these issues? What top coat(s) would you recommend?
